Daniel Holtzclaw, the former Oklahoma City police officer who was convicted of 18 counts of sexual assault against Black women, will be sentenced on Thursday, January 21, 2016. In response, local activists, including Candace Liger (founder of OKC Artist 4 Justice), are asking that today,  January 20th be marked as, “A Day of Visibility.” At 1:00pm EST today, please share your story of sexual assault or your support of those who have been victimized on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtags: #sayhername, #blackwomenmatter, and #itsnotover.

For those of us who live in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia areas, let us not forget those who have been assaulted including their families who are involved in the healing process. If you are in need of help, here is a small list that may help:

  • DC Rape Crisis Center (DCRCC) – dcrcc.org Hotline: 202-333-RAPE
  • Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assualt (MCASA) – mcasa.org
  • Rape Crisis Intervention Service (RCIS) -rapecrisiscc.org Hotline: 410-857-7322
  • Maryland Rape Recover Centers – phpa.dhmh.maryland.gov This will provide of list of centers in each county

These organizations are also looking for volunteers if you want to help. If you know of other organizations, please comment so we can spread the word.
