Today is #EqualPayDay. Rep. Frederica Wilson is one the co-sponsors of the Paycheck Fairness Act introduced on April 4, 2018. This act supports prohibitions against gender based pay discrimination. According to equalpayday.org:

Equal Pay Day is the approximate day the typical woman must work into the new year to make what the typical man made at the end of the previous year. Based on ACS Census data, the 2018 wage gap between women and men is $.80 (cents). The gap is far wider for women of color as compared to White, non-Hispanic men and moms as compared to dads.

I stand with all women of color like me who have been affected by this misappropriation. Maybe misappropriation is a too strong a word for this context but it sure feels that way. I have been faced with sitting in a meeting hearing all the excuses of why equal could not happen for me ie, budget crisis, just be patient so we can finish everyone else’s evaluation first or we will take care of you in the new fiscal year.  It has been delayed TOO MANY TIMES.

I will be following this bill as it goes thru its journey. Join me in the social media storm today starting at 2:00pm EST using #equalpayday.
